Patricia Akweongo

Patricia Akweongo is an Associate Professor of Health Economics and Policy in the Department of Health Policy Planning and Management, School of Public Health-University of Ghana. She was the Head of Department for Health Policy Planning and Management from 2018-2022 and the Head of Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control from 2012-2016. Before joining the School of Public Health in 2009, Patricia had worked as a Research Scientist at the Navrongo Health Research Centre for 13 years and as the Head of the Social Science Unit from 2005-2008.

Patricia’s research experience has been in the areas of maternal, child and adolescent health services, economic evaluation studies, health systems governance of social protection programmes, surveillance and response to maternal and pre-natal care, family planning access and utilisation, health systems strengthening, health policy and system analysis, health financing, community engagement and empowerment, malaria, equity and access to health care, sexual and reproductive health, human resource retention, management and strengthening, gender violence and cultural studies, epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases, etc. She has rich experience in scale up community health and health workforce interventions in low- and middle-income countries. She has over 95 peer review publications to her credit.
