Laura Ghiron spent 1998-2009 at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, with the last five as Senior Research Area Specialist. From 1998-2006, Ms. Ghiron collaborated with the World Health Organization and colleagues in Latin America on the implementation of the Strategic Approach to Strengthening Reproductive Health Policies and Programmes and the subsequent Reprolatina Project. She worked with Chinese colleagues on the Quality of Care Project from 1997-2007. In 2003 Ms. Ghiron helped found ExpandNet, which is a global network of public health and development professionals seeking to advance the science and practice of scaling up. Since co-founding Partners in Expanding Health Quality and Access in 2005 she has jointly organized and facilitated several meetings on scaling up, edited a book of scaling-up case studies, and co-authored several guides and peer-reviewed articles on scale-up, all of which are freely available on the ExpandNet website. Ms. Ghiron has co-chaired a global community of practice on systematic approaches to scale up since 2013 and been providing scaling up-related technical support since 2007 to several major public health and development initiatives in Asia, Africa, and Latin America with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, USAID and several others. Laura Ghiron, MPH, is President of Partners in Expanding Health Quality and Access – a US-based non-profit 501(c)3 organization – and Member of the ExpandNet Secretariat. She spent 1998-2009 as a program manager at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, with the last five as Senior Research Area Specialist. From 1998-2006, Ms. Ghiron collaborated with the World Health Organization (WHO) and colleagues in Latin America on the implementation of the Strategic Approach to Strengthening Reproductive Health Policies and Programmes and the subsequent Reprolatina Project. She worked with Chinese colleagues on the Quality of Care Project from 1997-2007. Based on the work with WHO, in 2003 Ms. Ghiron helped found ExpandNet as a global network of public health and development professionals seeking to advance the science and practice of scaling up. Since the establishment of Partners in Expanding Health Quality and Access in 2005, she has jointly organized and facilitated numerous meetings on scaling up, edited a book of scaling-up case studies, and co-authored several guides and peer-reviewed articles on scale-up, all of which are freely available on the ExpandNet website. Ms. Ghiron has co-chaired a global community of practice on systematic approaches to scale up since 2013 and served more recently on the Executive Committee of the Community of Practice on Scaling Development Outcomes, as well as lead for the CoP’s Health Technical Working Group. She has been providing scaling up-related technical assistance since 2007 to several major public health and development initiatives in Asia, Africa, and Latin America with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, USAID and several other institutions.
