Dr. James Kiarie’s training is in medicine and surgery with specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Public Health. Currently, he is Head of the Contraception and Fertility Care Unit, in the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. The unit works on contraception, fertility care, and infertility. Prior to joining WHO, he was an Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Nairobi working in reproductive and maternal health, health worker training and medical education. Dr. Kiarie has over 20 years experience in teaching, clinical practice and research in the field of reproductive health, focusing on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and family planning. He has also led programs in health professionals training, mentorship and use of information technologies in research and training. Dr. Kiarie has over 25 years experience in research, teaching, management, and leadership, with special focus on health systems, implementation and translation of evidence to practice. He has worked with programmes in Europe, Africa, South East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions.
