Science and practice of scale up

Documenting and disseminating scaling-up lessons, promoting experience sharing and identification of critical emerging scaling-up issues is central to ExpandNet’s mission and goals.

ExpandNet members use several mechanisms for undertaking this work including:

Convening stakeholders interested in engaging in comparative analysis of scaling up
Developing and providing written guidance documents to support scaling-up practitioners
Publishing evidence on the results of practical applications of systematic approaches to scale up
Disseminating scaling-up learning at national and international conferences
Reviewing and compiling publications on scaling up and related topics from a diverse range of fields and disciplines (see scaling-up bibliography)
Supporting projects to monitor, evaluate and document their scaling-up processes, milestones and learning

ExpandNet members share scale-up learning from the Urban Reproductive Health Initiative in Senegal (ISSU) at the International Conference on Family Planning.

The ExpandNet framework uses a systems perspective to understand all the elements of the scaling-up system and how they interact as well as point to key strategic choices that advance scaling-up goals.
ExpandNet and Sukh Initiative team members developed the Implementation Mapping Tool based on the Most Significant Change methodology to document key aspects of project implementation, milestones, lessons learned and stories.
ExpandNet co-organized with The Education Partnership (TEP) Centre in Nigeria, the 2016 Nigerian Education Innovation Summit to raise awareness among the education stakeholder community about the benefits of applying a systematic approach to scale up.
Two ExpandNet members present their learnings from diverse scaling-up activities on a preformed panel at the International Conference on Family Planning.
The Senegalese Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (ISSU) team together with their government counterpart work to document their scaling-up learnings in a peer-reviewed publication.
