Dr. Emily Mangone is a global health scientist and innovator with twenty years of experience designing, implementing, and evaluating programs and technologies to advance the health and empowerment of women and girls.

As Program Officer for Family Planning at the Gates Foundation, Dr. Mangone manages a portfolio of investments focused on building reproductive autonomy and agency and expanding contraceptive access and choice in low- and middle-income countries. She also leads technical workstreams on digital transformation & AI and adolescent sexual & reproductive health and rights.

As Adjunct Assistant Professor in the departments of Health Policy & Management and Health Behavior at the UNC Chapel Hill Gilling School of Global Public Health, Dr. Mangone teaches HPM 951: Literature Reviews & Appraisals, the second course in research design and methods in the executive DrPH program. She also serves as a guest lecturer and speaker across the University and provides mentorship to students and subject-matter expertise to faculty in key technical areas.

Dr. Mangone has a PhD in Health Policy & Management from UNC Chapel Hill and an MSc in Global Health Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Mangone has advanced business proficiency (C1) in French and experience leading technical assistance and research activities in Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Haiti, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, India, and Pakistan
