Clea Finkle

Clea Finkle, PhD, was a social science and international public health specialist bringing applied research into practical interventions for scaling family planning, maternal and child health, and HIV/AIDS Programs. She researched, designed, and managed reproductive health and FP programs in East and West Africa and South Asia for more than 20 years. During her long-standing collaboration with the Gates Foundation (2006-2021), Clea developed and managed several important grants, with the largest being the family planning team’s urban portfolio – called the Urban Reproductive Health Initiatives – of more than $175M. She supported more than 15 grants across 12 countries in sub–Saharan Africa and Asia, with a focus on research, health systems strengthening, sustainability, and scale up. Dr. Finkle joined ExpandNet/Partners in Expanding Health Quality and Access as Chief Strategy Officer in 2022. Immediately prior to that she was a consultant providing technical assistance on projects related to self-care, digital counseling, contraceptive development, drug shops, and scale up. Clea previously worked with PATH, the University of Washington, Microsoft, and I-TECH. She had a BA in Political Science and an MA in Sociology from the University of Michigan and PhD from the University of Washington in Political Science and History with a focus on South Asian Studies.
