Arsene Binanga

Dr. Arsène Binanga, MD, MPH, has been Tulane’s Country Director for Family Planning Programs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) since 2013, where he has served as lead for several projects including as the Advance Family Planning project representative where he worked closely with DRC government officials and many other family planning stakeholders. Prior to joining Tulane, Dr. Binanga worked with Georgetown University’s Institute for Reproductive Health for ten years as DRC Country Director where he helped introduce and scale up the Standard Days Method for pregnancy prevention. He previously worked in the field of HIV/AIDS, holding positions with Christian Aid for two years as Program Manager to implement HIV/AIDS projects aimed at providing support and care to people living with HIV/AIDS and their families; and seven years as the Director and Program Manager of 3’C’Santé, a Congolese NGO specializing on HIV/AIDS and STI prevention and treatment in the student areas of Kinshasa. Dr. Binanga has also worked as a consultant with DKT to pilot misoprostol use for post-partum hemorrhage prevention and for post abortion care. He served as President of the Multi Sectorial Family Planning Working Group from September 2010 to December 2018. While with Georgetown University, Dr. Binanga was also elected National Coordinator of the national coalition focused on repositioning family planning in the DRC and led the effort to develop the country’s first strategic plan for family planning, finalized in January 2014.
